Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, PolyOne has more than 9,000 employees at 80 manufacturing sites in North America, Europe and Asia and joint ventures in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. |  |  Challenge - With the merger of Geon, M.A.Hanna, Chase Elastomer, and Harwick, etc., to form PolyOne Corporation, there was a global consolidation of all its plants, contacts and products.
- The Web site had to reach a global audience with multiple platforms, security and tracking.
- Quick turn-around time was needed in launching the site
- The Web site needed a brand identity of its own but give enough leverage to the various business units to evolve their own brand based on their needs.
Solution - The nature of the large-scale merger and the scale of the Web site required a multiple release approach. This meant releasing base corporate material and product-line information in the initial release and evolving the business units in the second release. Each phased release needed a set of tools to address the specific target audience.
- A corporate standard appearance was the strategic creative approach used to allow a solid brand identity to be created, while letting each business unit have control of the content and layout of their individual units.
- Developed a geographic locator allowing search capabilities within the entire company. Because of the merger, the locator proved to be helpful for internal orientation. The locator was developed keeping flexibility and scalability in mind.
- Developed a time- and money-saving Update Application tool for upkeep of the site. This application allows for multiple security-level users to access selected pages, make alterations and post to the live site without extensive programming knowledge.
- Developed a multilingual capability allowing for multiple language interactions.
Outcome - Anticipated more than 500,000 unique visitors in 2001
